The no-show policy

Effective August 5, 2026

You are only ever matched on a Sunday you said yes to. Every Sunday morning we ask, you answer yes or no, and nothing happens unless the answer was yes. Nobody is ever put on a date they did not ask for that day.

Sunday is one date, at one time, with one person. There is no queue and no backup. When two people are matched, each of them keeps an evening free for a stranger. If one of them doesn't come, the other sits in a video room on their own.

This policy exists for the person left waiting.

The short version

Be there at 8, or tell us you can't. Telling us takes one tap. Cancelling is never counted as a no-show. The only thing that costs you anything is leaving someone waiting and saying nothing.

What counts as a no-show

It is not about being late. It is about having left someone sitting there. There is one question:

Were the two of you ever in the room at the same time?

If you were, nobody answers for that date. Maybe you had it, maybe it broke on you, but neither of you was left alone.

If you were not, whoever got there first was the one sitting alone waiting, and the other one is the no-show.

What is not a no-show

How to cancel

From Sunday morning until 8pm, there is always a link in your hand that cancels for you. Tap it. You never need to write to us and you never need to reply to a text.

Earlier is kinder than later, but a cancel at 7:58 still counts as a cancel.

We do keep a count of the ones after 6:30, because by then somebody is keeping their evening free for you and a late cancel takes it from them. Nothing happens automatically because of it. A repeat is read by one of our staff, and it can end in a suspension.

Please don't reply to the text message to cancel. Replying with words like "cancel" or "stop" unsubscribes you from Sunday's texts and does not call off your date.

What happens if you no-show

Your account is suspended. You stay on Sunday and keep your profile, but you are not matched again until the suspension is lifted. You will get an email letting you know.

Appealing

Your suspension email has a link for this. Tap it and tell us what happened. If you cannot find it, write to hello@sundaydates.com. One of our staff reads it, and if the reason is a fair one your account is turned back on.

An accepted appeal lifts the suspension. It does not erase the no-show from your record. Life happens, and we would rather believe you than not, but the record is what protects the person who was left waiting. If we think the circumstances warrant it, we may clear the record entirely, though that is at our discretion rather than something you can count on.

A second no-show

If you no-show a second time within twelve months of your first one, your account is suspended again and this one is not appealable. It is a rolling twelve months from the first no-show, not a calendar year.

What happens next is a decision one of our staff makes, not an automatic one. We are not closing the door permanently, but coming back is a conversation rather than a date on a calendar.

When this started

This policy applies to dates from August 5, 2026 onwards. Nothing before that date counts against anyone. It would not be fair to hold people to a rule that did not exist when they broke it.

Why we are strict about this

Almost everyone shows up. This policy is not aimed at them, and if you are the kind of person who reads a page like this, it is not aimed at you either.

It exists because the cost of a no-show does not land on us. It lands on one person, on their Sunday evening, waiting alone for someone who was never coming. Protecting them is worth losing the small number of people who won't do the one thing they said they would.

Questions

Write to hello@sundaydates.com. One of our staff reads every message.

If you think a no-show was recorded against you in error, say so and we will look at the delivery records for that night. If we cannot show that your link reached you, the strike does not stand.
